Last summer when I was in Taipei, I visited the Museum of Contemporary Art. Lucky for me they had a video piece by a Japanese artist that I had never heard of. This piece was so clean and beautiful, and the presentation–a large room with floor to ceiling video–was powerful. This, I thought, is a new level of presentation. The sound was also very strong. Crisp and rich, it was filled with concréte sounds, complimented by a similar image world. So I made a point to remember this guy, and you should too, Ryoichi Kurokawa. I still haven’t seen him live, but I hope to change that soon.
